We finally went to Frank Lloyd Wright's house at Oak Park that is located 30 min from down town. There are many houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the area around his home. There are very beautiful houses and but I just wondered if I really want to live there. Even there were designed by him, I would feel uncomfortable to live because too many tourists took photos all the time. Yes, we were one of them :-)
When we arrived his house and studio ( see 2nd & 3rd photos), we had to join a tour to see inside. But you can't take any photos inside his house. A tour guide explained that FLW was influenced by Japanese. When he saw Japanese lamps in Japan, he tried to copy to make them or he used a technique called "compression and release". The idea is that by passing through a narrow corridor (compression) and entering even a small room it feels large (release).
After the tour, we went to Lincoln park which is located at north downtown. As you can see, it is beautiful park in nature. The park was along side of the sea. Anyway, we enjoyed walking through the park. We only stayed for 3 days, but we really enjoyed sightseeing in Chicago. I want to go there again, but not in winter. :-)
It was a rainy day so we hung around downtown. We couldn't see the top of building. When rain started, it didn't stop quickly, Chicago didn't look like a NC. - so we changed our plan. We saw miniature downtown Chicago. Every single building was made by hand and it was quite amazing. They were so accurate. It seemed to take a very long time to finish this project.
In the afternoon, finally rain stopped, so we started walking again. It was fun to walk around new places, but I also felt I walked a long distance than I did.
It was an anniversary that I met him 5 years ago yesterday. We went to a Thai restaurant last night, but food wasn't so good than we expected so my husband choose a restaurant today for our anniversary. We went to the Peninsula Hotel. There is a very good Chinese restaurant. We ate a lot of nice dishes. (Clockwise) *Crispy duck with steam buns that I ate. It was soooooooo delicious. *Halibut with pork shrimp asian melon green mustard sauce that my husband enjoyed very much. Fried halibut was fried, but it wasn't oily at all also sauce was nice. *Green tea Creme brulee chestnut confit & passion fruit sorbet that my husband ordered. I wasn't so good at green tea flavour normally, but this was everything much. *Asian pear & Almond spring rolls honey peanuts and chocolate sauce that is my favorite dessert. It was a great anniversary dinner for us.
We are going to Frank Lloyd Wright house tomorrow! We are very looking forward to seeing his projects.
It was a first time to go to Chicago for me...!! My husband always mentioned that Chicago is great place to go sightseeing. Of course, I am looking for go "shopping", too! We arrived Chicago around 11 am. It took 2 hours flight, but only 1 hour time difference so I felt very close from North Carolina. We stayed at a downtown so it was very convenient to go any places. We walked a lot. Before we started sightseeing, we were very hungry so we went to a hamburger shop that we saw many people got in and when we took a one bite, you can imagine.... yes it was very "American taste" ....
There are many placed to see in Chicago, but we looked forward to taking a river cruse. It was great tour. A guide explained about history of buildings. One of the residential buildings is sold from $4 mil and more than $1 mil. I wonder who would buy it. Of course, there are many billionaires in the world such as Nicole Kidman. The day we took the river cruise, it was very nice weather, but a little bit chilly. I really recommend if you have a chance to go to Chicago, you should take a river cruise. After the cruise, we went to the art institute of Chicago around 6 pm. On Friday, the museum was opened until 8pm. ( from 5 to 8 pm on every Thursday is free on charge). We started to see our favorite era. We've been many different museum in the world, but this museum was so special. First of all, we saw some paints which we've never seen before.
There are too many paints and sculptures so it was impossible to see all of them for 2 hours. However, we could manage to see most of impressionist arts. I would like to go there again, if I can.
I thought I don't mind to live Chicago, but I still don't know how cold is there in winter. My husband told me that he wouldn't live there in winter....! Yes,maybe I maybe bare it, but there are very nice shopping area and very metropolitan. :-)
Oh... well! Finally, I've done it. Yes, I rode 102.26km for 5 1/2 hours. It was third time to go to Pittsboro. It was very hard to ride long distance. When I bought my bike, I promised my partner to ride 100K then he will give me a bike shoes. I've never expected how tough it was. I almost give up what I told him. He loooooves stoic and challenging of exercises. ME???? No way! I've tried at least before I complained, but I don't like being stoic. I like spa, eating nice food or shopping... However, when I've done it, Of course, I had good feeling. I am not addicted long riding YET, but I will get my bike shoes so we have to ride somewhere. We saw 5 fawns and 3 dead fawns yesterday. When I see some animals during riding, it was fun but I often imagined if I rode rural in France, there would be different scenery and I would enjoy nice food.
