海猫屋 Uminekoya!

去年の話しですが、１１月に日本へ戻った時に友達と行ったお店です。とにかく美味しくボリュームもたっぷり、そしてお値段が安い。８コースで一人３０００円ですよぉ〜。私は日本に戻ったらまた行きたいお店の１つです！

We went to an Izakaya type restaurant in Tokyo. My friend has been there and she recommended to go there. It was amazing and I was so impressed of the foods. We ordered course menu which is 8 dishes for 4 persons. It costs 3000 yen per person! Can you believe it?



カルパッチョ。シソの実とバジルのソースが絶妙。

野菜のオーブン焼き。（野菜好きじゃない方でも野菜が好きになるくらい美味しい）

I know we ate a lot, however the all dishes are so delicious so we could not help eating them! We would like to go there again! The chef is so keen on food.

この方が店のオーナー。一人で料理を全て作って、お手伝いの男の人いるだけでした。

私達が行った時は、すでにグループのお客さんと個人でのお客さんが何人かいてすごく忙しそうでした。こじんまりとしたお店で、すべてにオーナーの目が行き届いている感じでとても好感の持てるお店でした。４人以上で行く時は必ず予約をした方が良いと思います。そして、お任せコースがお薦めです！


This is the owner, who cook everything and he only has a waiter. The restaurant is compact and cozy so if you go there with number of people you should book a table in advance, otherwise it would be difficult to fit in. Also I recommend to order a course which is worthwhile!

松寿司も通過し、しばらく行くと左側にあります。駅から徒歩２，３分。


JR Chuo line get off Nishi Ogikubo (south exit) , through the arcade then go straight a little while then the restaurant is the left side. It's about 3 minutes from the station. You can see the name board "UMINEKOYA" with black-tailed Gull sign at the top of the entrance door! ( It is cute)

トリュフ/truffles

今日はパートナーの誕生日です。毎年、何をプレゼントしようか悩むのですが今年は思い切って全て手作りの物にしました。パートナーは一切「物欲」というのがなく何かプレゼントしても気に入らなかったら放置されっぱなしなので。（笑）今年は、彼の好きそうな物を作りました。

まずは、これ！抹茶チョコレートのトリュフ。何度か挑戦しているので少しチョコレートのテンパリングもましに。でも、まだまだ。いつかお菓子の学校にでも通ってみたいなって思う。（願）

そして、写真にはないけどバナナチョコレートブラウニーも作ってみました。最近、パウンドケーキ等も挑戦しているんだけどどうも納得いくような出来になりません。スポンジ系とはあまり相性が良くないみたい！（泣）

で、他のプレゼントは・・・というと、今年は全てハンドメイドと決めたのでディナーは３コースで望む予定。メニューはオニオンスープ、アミューズブッシュ　、メインはサルティンボッカです！
そして、デザートはチョコレートと色々なナッツのタルトにする予定です。

最近、カトラリーのセットを買いました。それも誕生日プレゼントの一部です！（あとで写真を載せますね！）

今日は大忙し！でも、ちゃんとこれからタップのレッスンを受けてきます！

Today is my partner's birthday! He is the very difficult man to give presents. First of all, he doesn't have a desire to buy things except books. Secondly, he is not interested in clothes or anything. He prefers to make if he can do. So I decided to make everything instead of buy clothes. Anyway, I made green tea truffles and banana chocolate Brownie for presents. He loves chocolate so he loves my presents! Truffles are very difficult to make, especially tempering chocolate. I had to be careful about the temperature otherwise chocolate doesn't shine. I tried to make them a few times and I still need practicing, but they are better than last time. :-)
Also I will make 3 courses dinner tonight. Menu would be onion soup, amuse-bouche, saltimbocca and dessert which will be nuts chocolate tart.

I recently bought cutlery sets which we went to a french restaurant in Thailand. We fell in love. I would like to take some photos tonight. I will be very busy for cooking, serving and enjoying his birthday! However, I also have a tap class before dinner so I have to do many things today!

ボルティモアキルト/Bartimore Quilt

やっとボルティモアキルトが完成しました。ボルティモアキルトとは花とバスケットをモチーフとしたアップリケが主流のキルトなんですよ。
私が日本でパッチワーク教室に通って習った時にまぁ、本当に不器用な私は一番苦手な課題でした。アップリケ、本当に苦心したんです。その頃。でも、いつかアップリケを克服したいな・・・と思って挑んだ作品がこれなんです。


このアップリケの布達は全部、余り切れを使って作りました。こうやってみるとスクラップなんて見えないでしょう。

キルトを始めた時に、布を買うのが楽しみで色々な所で布を集めました。でも、自分で買う布ってほとんど色が似たり寄ったりなんです。

でも、このスクラップの布達は、無料でもらった物ばかりでたぶん、私が決して自分から選ばないような布達なんだと思うけど、それが逆に作品のスパイスになってたりします。なので、スクラップの作品は好きです。これがノースカロライナで作る最後の作品です！

Finally, I finished my Baltimore Quilt. Baltimore quilts originated in the region around Baltimore, Maryland in the 1840s where a unique and highly developed applique style of quilt briefly flourished. The designs are often feature floral patterns, and many other motifs are also used. Designs were often highly detailed.

When I used to take quilts lessons in Japan. I've learnt applique technique, but I was the worst students in the class. -:) Anyway, I would like to take on challenge and now I have surmounted the challenge. (No more applique for a while... )

I used all my free scraps which I've got from fabric marketing company. These scraps were very useful because I have aquired scraps of new patterns and colours not already in my material collection. I like using scraps in my projects. This tapestry will be the last project in North Carolina!

明けましておめでとうございます。

本年もよろしくお願いします。

皆さんいかがお過ごしですか？私達はクリスマスから今月の１８日までバンコクで過ごしています。バンコクは夏のようなお天気で過ごしやすいです。カーボロではどうもクリスマスに大雪になったみたいです。やっぱり暖かい方が過ごしやすくていいですね。でも、バンコクでは特別お正月に何かするわけでもなく、日本のおせちが恋しいです。

A Happy New Year

We are in Bangkok now. The weather is very nice. It looks like summer. We came here from Christmas. In Bangkok, it didn't have any special new year celebration so I miss Japanese new year dishes.

箱根／Hakone

日本に帰ってきました。そして今度は私の家族達とまずは箱根に旅行へ行きました。
We came back to Japan then we went to Hakone with my family for a weekend. Hakone has been one of Japan's most popular hot spring resorts for centuries.


箱根ガラスの森に行ってきました。ここが思っていた以上に良かったです。天気もよかったせいかクリスタルイルミネーションがキラキラ輝いて美しかったです。

We went to the Venetian Grass Museum. The Cristal illumination was glittering by sunshine.



素敵なヴェネティアングラスがいっぱいありました。左のグラスなんて折れそうなくらい。このグラスのお名前は「風にそよぐグラス」だそうです。

The museum was fabulous. The glass was so fragile and beautiful. I wish I could have them in my house. :-)


仙石原のすすきの草原、少しずつ色が変わってきていました。去年よりも少し遅かったらみたい。
Here is the silver grass field in Sengokubara. It was just about changing colour.


富士屋ホテルに泊まりました。全てがアンティークでした。お庭がとてもきれい。

A maple tree was so beautiful!



















We stayed at Fujiya Hotel that is the very first resort hotel in Japan and has been introducing the tradition and culture of Japan to foreign visitors since 1878.
Many celebrities stayed this hotel such as John Lennon, Helen Keller, Charlie Chaplin, the Emperor of Japan.



Normally, in a Japanese spa people go to bathe in a communal bath (ONSEN). The Fujiya hotel caters for foreigners by piping spa water to the private bath in each guest room. The water had quite unmild smell no as strong as some Onsens.

ホテルの裏庭がすごくきれいでした。春もきっと素晴らしい眺めなんだと思います。裏庭から富士山が見える展望台まで歩いて３０分くらいでした。

Behind the hotel has a beautiful garden. There was a small path to reach the viewpoint of Mt. Fuji. We hiked about 30 minutes then could see the Mt. Fuji.


もちろん、眺めは最高でした。富士山を見るとなぜだか幸せな気持ちになりますよね。日本人は特に？
The view was perfect. Mt. Fuji made me happy feeling!!


大湧谷にも行ってきました。そこへ行ったらやっぱり「黒たまご」を食べなきゃね。そして、自然の中で作っているのも見る事が出来ました。

Then we also went to Owakudani which is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents. It is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and especially Black eggs that boiled in the hot springs and boiled eggs turned black and smell slightly sulphuric; consuming the eggs is said to increase longevity. Eating one is sad to add seven years to your life. :-) Of course, we ate them! Can you see the black eggs in the photo?


天気がよかったので景色は素晴らしかったです。
The weather was nice so it was a great trip in Hakone!

Last day of Angkor Wat／最終日

1. バンテアイ・スレイ／Banteay Srei

ヒンドゥー教の寺院遺跡。スレイは女という意味で、大部分が砂岩により建造されている。デヴァターの彫像は「東洋のモナリザ」とも呼ばれているそうです。 This temple is a 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. It is built largely of red sandstone and the elaborate decorative wall carvings which are still observable. There were so gorgeous!!


破風には、ヒンドゥー教の神話が精密にまた立体的に彫られています。（写真をクリックしてみる価値あり！） This Carving is of a kala, a mythical creature representative of time and of the god Siva. ( Click the photo, you can see how precisely carvings were.)



「東洋のモナリザ」と呼ばれるデヴァター像が柔らかな曲線で彫られていてとても美しかったです。

Devatas carved into the red sandstone walls and she was called Eastern Mona Lisa. The pose and the angel of her face and shoulders are just like Mona Lisa.















2. プレループ／Pre Rup

プレは変化、ループは体を意味し、かつては境内で行われたと伝わる火葬を名の由来とする。


ヒンドゥー教寺院でラテライトとレンガで築かれている。
This is the Hindu temple. This temple was constructed by brick, laterite and sandstone.

もちろん、この階段を上っていくのですよ。そうすると素晴らしい景色が待ってます！
Of course we climb up this stairs then you can see beautiful scenery.

Pre Rup overlooks the rice fields of the Eastern Baray. The temple may have been a place for royal cremation.


3. バンテイ・クデイ／Banteay Kdei

１２席後期から１３席早期にかけて建てられ仏教寺院でバイヨン形式である。
Built in the late 12th to early 13th centuries and it is a Buddhist temple in the Bayon style. A temple and Buddhist monastery surrounded by four walls, 700m x 500m in size.





崩れかけそうな石の扉をくぐっていきます。でも、崩れないように積み重ねられているそうです。すごいですよね。

It looked the gate falls down, but the gate was very well designed.














そして、これでアンコールワット遺跡は終わりです。ブログをアップするのにかなり時間がかかってしまいました。（汗）

Finally, I could finish Angkor Wat ruins. It took a lot of time to update my blog.

Angkor Wat / アンコールワット

1. アンコールワット／Angkor Wat

今日もハードスケジュールでした。朝４時半に起き、５時にホテルを出てアンコールワットでの日の出を見に行きました。アンコールワットに行くと、たーーーーくさん人がいましたよ。

It was a hard schedule today as well. We woke up at 4:30 a.m. and left hotel at 5 a.m. because of watching sunrise. There were many tourists in Angkor Wat. It must be a big event for tourists!

１５分後にはこんなにも明るくなっていました。15 minutes later, it was so bright!

荘厳な気持ちにさせます。ここでは毎日こんな素晴らしい景色があるんですね。朝早く起きてきた甲斐がありました。この後、昨日アンコールワットの中を見に行きました。見る場所がありすぎて大変です。（汗）パートナーは遺跡が大好き。私も好きですが、彼ほどではないと自覚しております。（笑）だから、こういう壮大な場所に来てしまうと私は時間を持て余してしまう事も多々。もちろん！感激しましたよ。でも、問題は色々な場所を見に行っても同じに見えてしまう事も多々。ははは。私だけですかねぇ〜？

乳海攪拌／Churning the Sea of Milk


有名な「乳海攪拌」のレリーフは、アンコール・ワット第一回廊東側南半分の壁面にある。全長49メートル。複雑で長大な物語の一部を切りとったものだ。神々と阿修羅、すなわち善と悪の象徴が、共に力を合わせて共同作業をし、そこから不老不死の妙薬「アムリタ」を作るというお話。

The Churning of the Ocean of Milk of Angkor Wat 1st gallery is one of the most famous bas-reliefs in Angkor. This relief is located on the south part of eastern wall of the first gallery. A Hindu myth in which gods and demons cooperate to churn the primordial ocean, in order to produce amrita, the elixir of immortality.



とにかくこれはすごいレリーフでした。私はアンコールワットの中で一番好きなレリーフでした。ちなみにこれはタイの空港にもありますよ。

It was very impressed bas-reliefs and this is my favourite one in Angkor Wat. By the way, you can see the same relief at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand.









神と悪魔との戦い／ Battle between gods and demons



ヴィシュヌ神と悪魔（阿修羅）の戦いが描かれている。 A battle sene of 21 gods fighting the asuras (demons).


















中央祠堂への階段／Angkor Wat Central Tower

かなり高い所に来たのにさらにこのような高い建物がありました。残念ながら私達が行った時は立ち入り禁止になっていました。でも・・・。修復している人たちが塔の上にいて、「お金をくれるんなら入っても良いよ」みたいな事を言われました。観光客の中には入っている人もいましたよ。

We couldn't get in the tower, but some men who restored the ruin, they told us if we pay some money, you can get in. Of course, some tourist paid and got in.














中央祠堂の前の壁にはアプサラダンサーの彫刻が壁一面にありました。微妙に彼女達の表情や仕草が違うのです。
There are beautiful Apsara dancers carved on the upper gallery walls surrounding the central tower.














2. タ・プローム／Ta Prohm

このお寺はすごく有名。映画「トゥームレーダー」の舞台で使われましたものね。
特にこの場所が人気で人の山でした。写真を撮るのも順番待ちで。（笑）そしてこの木、スポングと呼ばれていましたが日本名ではガジュマルの様です。

The temple was used as a location in the film Tomb Raider. The temple is overrun by trees then most of them are very large and old. The roots that engulf the structures are very interesting to behold. This tree was called "Spong" that what a tour guide said.




遺跡を間でも浸食してしまうこの樹木、アンコールワットの中で遺跡の破壊度が一番大きいらしいです。このまま自然破壊されていくのではとまで言われているみたいです。

These roots destroyed ruins, but it looks like giant spider webs. This temple is worse condition than other temples because of forces of nature.











3. プノン・バケン／Phnon Bakheng

ここは、サンセットを見る事でとても有名な場所です。プノン・バケンはアンコールワットとより２００数年ほど古いそうです。それにとにかく頂上から眺める景色が素晴らしかったです。でも、そこへ辿り着くまでの道がすごいんです。特に階段が。１つの階段が３０センチくらいはあったと思います。

Phnom Bakheng is the best place to see the sunset from the top of ancient temple. (This temple is older than Angkor Wat by 200 some years.) However, you should hike up the hill and climb up very steep staircase.






で、頂上に着くと・・・

Then when you reached at the top.... here it is!

たくさんの人で溢れかえっていました。みんな場所取りに大忙し！
It was so crowded and everybody tried to keep their sitting spot. :-)




この塔が頂上の中心です。ここでは本当にたくさんの国の人たちがいました。なかなか一度に違う国の人達を見る事なんて滅多にないから不思議な感じでした。

I saw many foreigners such as Russian, British, German, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian and so on... It was quite strange feeling because everybody spoke different languages and looked at the same thing at the same time.

Angkor Thom/アンコールトム

ハノイからシアムリープまで飛行機で約２時間くらい。ホテルからアンコールワットの遺跡にある所まで車で１５分くらい。そこでチケットを買い、そこで毎回チケットを見せてから入場するんです。（もちろん、それは外国人のみ）カンボジア人は拝観料は無料だそうです。私達は3日間のパスを買いました。

We came to Siem Reap is the gateway to the Angkor region from Hanoi. It took about 2 hours flight. From our hotel to Angkor temples takes about 15 minutes by car. On the way we came to the ticket office to buy tickets. Every time when you go these temples, we had to pass through. However, Cambodian doesn't pay to see these temples. ( so only Foreigners.) Anyway, we bought a 3 day pass.


1. アンコールトム／Angkor Thom

これがアンコールトムの南大門入口。左右それぞれに５４体の巨人の石像が並べられ、向かって左の像は神々、右の像は阿修羅でどちらも７つの頭を持つ蛇（ナーガ）の胴体を抱えている。

This is the entrance of south gate of Angkor Thom. 54 giant bodies are arranged each side. On the left side are all gods and the right side are all Asuras. They hold snakes (Naga) which has 7 heads.

Angkor Thom means "great city" was in used from the 16 century in Khmer.







2. バイヨン／Bayon

Bayon is a well-known and richly decorated Khmer temple.

バイヨンの中を上っていきます。

上っていくと至る所にこのような彫刻や石像が見られます。

気の遠くなるような作業に思わずため息が出ます。

You can see these sculptors and carving on walls. ( It is amazing!!!)










バイヨンの一番上です。Here is the top of the Bayon.

たくさんの観光客がいました。そしてあちこちで観光ガイドが英語を始め、日本語、スペイン語、中国語、フランス語を話しているのですが、とにかくどのガイドも非常に上手いのである。
日本語のガイドは、尊敬語、謙譲語はもちろん、オノマトペもまるで日本人のように使いこなしているのである。あれは、すごいと思った。ガイドの中にはジョークなんかも言っている人がいた。

たぶん、彼らがそれほどまでに言葉を駆使するのは生活の為だからであるとは思うが、それでも驚きを隠さずにはいられない。

There are many tourists at the top of Bayon. Most of tourists hired guides. The guides speak Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and French. I heard that each guide can speak two language at least. I was so impressed when one of the guide who speak Japanese, he spoke very fluently, used onomatopoeia like a Japanese does and made jokes. I just wondered how long it takes to speak fluently. Cambodian needs to learn foreign languages for making their life.

3. バプーオン／Baphuon

11世紀にウダヤーティディヤヴァルマン二世立てられたとされる。

Built in the mid-11th century, it is a three-tiered temple mountain built as the state temple of Udayadityavarman II dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. It is the archetype of the Baphuon style. The temple adjoins the southern enclosure of the royal palace and measures 120 metres east-west by 100 metres north-south at its base and stands 34 meters tall without its tower, which would have made it roughly 50 meters tall.

かなり壊れてしまっているので標識と見比べてやと分かる程度。今は、上る事も不可能です。
It is very hardly to see where is the reclining Buddah at the back of Baphon.

4. ピミアナカス／Phimeanakas

当時は王族が参加する儀式の場で普通の人が近づく事は出来なかったそうです。 11世紀初頭、スールヤヴァルマン一世が建立。ピラミッド型の建造物で天上の宮殿という意味がある。ラテライトで3層に積み上げられ祠堂が上にのっている 建造物です。その中央塔には９つの頭を持った蛇ナーガ（蛇神）が宿り、女性に姿を変え、王は夜な夜な女性（ナーガ）と交わらなければならなかった。もし一 夜でもこの行為を怠れば王は早死にする信じられていたという伝説があります。
According to legend, the king spent the first watch of every night with a woman thought to represent a Naga in the tower, during that time, not even the queen was permitted to intrude. Only in the second watch the king returned to his palace with the queen. If the Naga who was the supreme land owner of Khmer land did not show up for a night, the king's day would be numbered, if the king did not show up, calamity would strike his land.

5. 象のテラス／Terrace of the Elephant

王宮前の広場に面した象のテラス。長さ350M、高さ3.5Mのテラス。王が臨席し式典等が行われた。
The 350m-long, 3.5M height Terrace of Elephants was used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and served as a base for the king's grand audience hall.

側面から見ると象がズラーッと並んでいる。The elephants on the wall.

テラスの上を歩いていたので象が側面にいる事に気づくのに時間がかかりました。（笑）
However, it took time to find out the the elephants were on the wall because we walked on the terrace!
